UK jobs boost from windpower investment

21 October 2004 - A report commissioned by the UK Department of Trade and Industry and environmental group Greenpeace suggests that up to 76 000 new jobs could be created by the offshore wind industry.

The report says that the main beneficiary will be the north east of England, with its history of manufacturing, strong skills base and access to seaports. The report says the region is ideally placed to benefit from more investment in windpower, which could generate some 38 000 jobs in the area.

Aberdeen and East Anglia are also seeking to develop wind farm service industries.
