21 October 2004 - Siemens Power Generation (PG) is set to move into the wind energy systems market by acquiring Bonus Energy A/S. The agreement entered into by Siemens PG and Dangregn Vindkraft A/S, the Danish owner of Bonus Energy A/S is planned to reach completion early December, dependent upon the approval of the relevant competition authorities.
With a workforce of 750 and annual sales of approximately €300m ($378m), Bonus Energy A/S is one of the five major suppliers of wind energy systems worldwide. They have installed more than 5000 turbines with an aggregate capacity above 3 GW in more than 20 countries.
Klaus Voges, president of Siemens PG said, "In order to meet the world's increasing power demand not only in reliable and cost-effective, but also environmentally compatible manner, we have to utilise all sources of energy. Wind energy will become an important part of this energy mix."
Bonus, with its facilities in Brande and AaIborg, will constitute the core of Siemens PG's wind activities worldwide, and the new PG Division 'Wind Power' will be based in Brande, Denmark.
Palle Norgaard, CEO of Bonus Energy A/S said, "The market is demanding more comprehensive and complex solutions. In the past, we have undertaken significant research and development activities for further advancement of this technology."
The world market volume for wind energy systems is around €6bn and annual growth rates of ten per cent are anticipated over the coming years. Focal growth areas will be Europe, the US and Asia.
