Rolls-Royce to power new Spanish cogeneration plants

20 October 2004 - Moyresa of Spain has selected nine Rolls-Royce K-gas engines to power three major electricity cogeneration plants in Barcelona and Bilbao.

Bjorn Thorbjomsen, managing director of Rolls-Royce in Spain, said of the deal with the operator in the oilseed crushing and refining industry, "The selection of our gas engines by Moyresa confirms the long awaited upturn in the Spanish cogeneration market."

The nine 18 cylinder engines, which run on natural gas, will produce reliable supplies of steam and hot water for the three project sites, exploiting each plants output of more than 7 MW of thermal energy while exporting 5 MW to the Spanish national grid at times of peak demand.

The three projects will be developed by means of a Build Own Transfer (BOT) scheme working with the Millennium Energy Company, while IBERESE will undertake the construction of the plants with an EPC contract.

Three KVGS-18G4 units are to be installed at the Moyresa cogeneration plant in Barcelona, where they will produce up to 9.9 MW of electrical power. The remaining six, three at each site, will power the company's Soja and Girasol facilities in Bilbao. All will enter service between 2004 and 2005.
