12 October 2004 - VA Tech Transmission and Distribution (VA Tech T&D) has received an order from the Albanian electric supply company Korporata Elektroenergjetike Shqiptare (Kesh) worth an estimated €3m ($3.7m).
Austria's VA Tech T&D, a supplier of high voltage transmission and distribution systems, is to supply conduction technology and communication systems as well as the extension of additional 110 kV line feeders.
This is a further order from Kesh, who in 2002, awarded VA Tech, the listed company of which VA Tech T&D is a group company of, the €12m contract to extend seven sub-stations, thus bringing the projects total order value to €15m.
The project will increase the transmission capacity and the fail-safety in seven important nodes in the Kesh network, improving the electric supply decisively.
The total order includes the construction, manufacture, delivery, assembly and putting into operation of eleven transformers of 110/20 kV with 40 and 25 MVA, 110 kV outdoor substations (25 feeder), 20 kV indoor substations (89 feeder) as well as protection, control systems, electric supply and also civil erection works.
The plant extensions had become necessary because of supply difficulties caused by an antiquated plant, limited resources with regard to energy carriers, and climatic conditions.
The rebuilding and extensions will take place while maintaining the current supply. With the first of the seven plants already been handed over, the handing over of the last plant to Kesh is planned for the second quarter in 2005.
