IBM secures Italian metering deal

28 September 2004 - ASM Brescia, an Italian multi-utility company and IBM have signed a $32m five-year agreement for an integrated, automated electricity meter management solution that will transform ASM Brescia's service offerings through the remote management of both electricity distribution and other services provided to over 200,000 customers.

The two-way communications capability of the meters will optimize the utility company's business performance by allowing the monitoring of energy consumption consistently and in real-time. The ability to apply analytics to this data in the future will allow for the introduction of highly customized and flexible pricing options, and enable utilities to offer other new services.
