28 September 2004 - Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), a subsidiary of Constellation Energy, announced Monday that it is making preparations in advance of the expected wind and rain that could accompany remnants of Hurricane Jeanne as it makes its way north from Florida. Specifically, utility officials have begun the process of identifying personnel and equipment necessary to restore power in the event of outages.
"While Jeanne has certainly weakened considerably, it still has the potential to produce relatively high wind across much of BGE's Central Maryland service territory," said Mark P. Huston, recently named vice president of electric transmission and distribution for BGE. "As we have seen throughout the past several months, high wind can cause significant damage to our electric system, knocking down tree limbs and even whole trees which then fall onto BGE's power lines. In those cases, it's critical that our customers not attempt to move downed lines or objects, such as tree limbs, that appear to be in contact with down lines, but rather call BGE so that we can respond in a safe and efficient manner."
