Saudi firm interested in Pakistan power privatization

24 September 2004 - A Saudi Group, Kanooz Al Watan, has expressed its interest to participate in Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) privatization.

Kanooz group chairman Prince Abdul Aziz Meteb Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud and H E Walid Al Saygh expressed the interest of their group during a meeting with Minister for Water and Power, Liaquat Ali Jatoi here on Wednesday.

The group is keen to further invest in the water and energy sector and stated that the country is viable for investment.

The Minister told the visiting delegation that the government would provide all the support to the Saudi group. He said that Pakistan's economy is at take off stage, since its all economic indicators were showing positive trend.

The Minister said that the government has approved financial support plan of KESC to make it attractive for investors.

He said that KESC's tariff determination has been done by Nepra and is appropriately protected while other liabilities in KESC are being settled, adding that investment of the group in KESC will be safe and profitable.

The Minister said that the privatisation process is completely transparent and wished Kanooz Al Watan would win the KESC bidding.
