VA Tech delivers the first TH7m to Switzerland

21 September 2004 - VA Tech Transmission & Distribution (VA Tech T&D), a group company of listed Austrian group VA Tech has won a contract from the Zurich city electricity works (EWZ) for the renovation of the high voltage switchgear of the Wettingen hydropower plant. Under this contract, VA Tech T&D will be delivering the first TH7m to Switzerland.

The scope of delivery of VA Tech T&D covers the supply, installation and start-up of a seven-field complete indoor switchgear (type TH7m) including all associated control cabinets and various ancillary equipment.

After more than 70 years of operation without problems, EWZ decided for this investment because of new legal requirements and needs for extensive technical renovation. EWZ negotiated with the Cantons of Zurich and Aargau for a new license for a further 80 years, which was brought into force in May 2003.

Delivery and start-up of the entire switchgear is scheduled for the beginning of 2005. Machine 1 of the hydroelectric power plant will also be converted during this time, and machines 2 and 3 will be renovated and automated in the following years.
