16 July 2004 - Swedish utility Vattenfall is continuing its extensive programme on the introduction of remote electricity meters for the company's 900 000 customers in Sweden. Ahead of the second stage of this programme, a framework agreement has been signed with Iskraemeco on the complete supply and installation of 150 000 electricity meters including a data-collection system.
This framework agreement covers a complete AMR system (Automatic Meter Reading) with a data-collection system and the installation of 150 000 meters in the premises of Vattenfall customers. Installation will begin in Northern Uppland as early as September this year.
The Slovenian company Iskraemeco d.d., Europe's third largest meter manufacturer, will co-operate on this contract with WM-data and the installation company Bravida.
As far as Vattenfall is concerned, the new framework agreement entails an investment of approximately SEK 300m ($40.3m) over a period of two years. The procurement is part of an extensive programme that is designed to make life simpler for Vattenfall's customers. The current system, which is based on preliminary debiting and payment in advance, will be abolished and replaced by electricity bills based on actual consumption.
"We are continuing our efforts to give Vattenfall's customers exact bills. In this stage too, we have chosen, on a fiercely competitive market, a supplier that will meet our high demands and expectations," says Göran Lundgren, Managing Director of Vattenfall Eldistribution.
"Being a traditional meter supplier to Vattenfall for many years, we are very proud that Vattenfall has decided in favour of our solution. It is a big gain for Iskraemeco to be the supplier of the future AMR-technology to Vattenfall. Together with WM-data and Bravida we have built a firm base for a successful business," says Göran Samuelsson, Iskraemeco's representative in Sweden.
