15 June 2004 - Datang Luoyang Thermal Power Generation Company Ltd. have just awarded its first major expansion contract for its 30-year old Luoyang power plant situated in the Henan province in central China to VA Tech Transmission & Distribution (VA Tech T&D). The contract is worth €2.2m ($2.65).
The Datang Luoyang Power and Heat Generation Project will see VA Tech T&D supply two 515/20kV, 360MVA transformers and accessories, as well as transportation to site, supervision of site installation and commissioning. The design drawing is to be submitted in one-month time and production is expected to commence in November 2004. Delivery of the first unit is scheduled for May 2005, followed by the second in August 2005.
VA Tech T&D was awarded the contract ahead of local Chinese companies and joint ventures with established European names, due to VA Tech T&D's competitive price level and favourable technical data of the product. It's the first contract between VA Tech T&D and Datang Luoyang Thermal Power Generation Company Ltd.
Datang, with a total generation capacity of more than 35,000MW, is one of the six main power generation companies in China and is stock listed in both Hong Kong and London. The six large power generation companies and two power grid companies were established in 2003, in a liberalisation process of the government-oriented State Power Company.
Klaus Brenner, Chairman of VA Tech T&D, said, "China is a very important market for us and this contract reinforces our strong position there. We have previously supplied China's Henan Province with power equipment, however this is the first time we supply such large size units for a power generation project." He concluded, "We have a high reputation on the energy market and we believe that our share in the 500kV business in China will expand after the completion of the Datang Luoyang project."
