15 June 2004 - The UAE and Oman signed in Abu Dhabi on Monday a bilateral agreement to link their two countries on a common electricity grid. Minister of Electricity and Water, Humaid bin Nasir Al Owais signed the agreement for the UAE side, while Oman's Minister of Housing, Electricity and Water, Dr. Khamis bin Mubarak Al Alawi, also signed for his country.
The agreement came to crown the efforts which began with the signing of a memorandum of understanding in December 2001 between the ministry of electricity and water and its Omani counterpart.
The agreement covered the linking of the two countries' electricity network on a bilateral grid in both countries, in areas stretching from Al Ain to the Wasit area in Oman on a voltage of 220 Kv from Ghalela in UAE to Khasab in Oman on a voltage of 33 Kv, from Dibba in UAE to Dibba Al Bia in Oman also on a voltage of 33 Kv, from Qadfa in UAE to Madha in Oman on a voltage of 220 or 132 Kv and from Muzairea in UAE to Al Rawda in Oman on a voltage 33 Kv.
In a statement after the signing of the agreement Al Owais said the agreement came to crown the deeply rooted relations of brotherhood between the two countries, which had been consolidated by the personal ties between the leaders of the two countries, adding that the agreement came to conclude the memorandum of understanding signed by the two countries in 2001.
For his part, the Omani minister said that the UAE had made great efforts to reach this point of agreement based on the two countries' belief in the need to boost bilateral ties and to work towards a common goal.
