Global electricity market survey draws large response from industry

30 April 2004 - A global electricity market survey launched by PA Consulting Group (PA) on April 19th has drawn a large initial response. Many respondents believe that reform efforts will provide benefits, including lower prices, but are less optimistic about electricity industry reform compared to a year ago.

The goal of the survey is to help the electricity industry move toward a common understanding of best practices in industry reforms and electricity markets.

According to Ed Kee, a Member of PA's Management Group and author of the survey, "reforms and market introductions that were underway prior to the Enron disaster, the August 2003 Blackout in North America and other events, have slowed or even stopped." Adds Kee, "In order for the industry to avoid being trapped in a twilight zone between earlier regulatory regimes and reformed electricity markets, reform efforts must be brought back on track."

PA is the pre-eminent adviser on electricity industry reform, market design and market implementation, having led or participated in the vast majority of electricity market reforms worldwide over the past decade. PA is currently engaged in most of the electricity industry reforms and market introductions underway in the world.

To participate in PA's Global Electricity Markets Survey, please complete the online form, available at www.global-electricity-markets.com. The form will take between five and fifteen minutes to complete and all answers will be kept strictly confidential. In return for completing the survey, PA will provide respondents with the complete survey results and analysis upon its completion of the research. The survey will remain open until the end of May.

PA will present the final results of the survey in a public report, with a presentation to the industry at a conference scheduled for October 2004 in Houston, Texas and sponsored in conjunction with University of Houston's Global Energy Management Institute.
