VA Tech Hydro secures €15m small hydroelectric power plant

23 April 2004 - VA Tech Hydro has received an order for supplying a small hydroelectric power plant in Nussdorf at the inlet of the Viennese Danube canal together with Porr Technobau and Verbundplan as consortium leaders. The project was ordered by Verbund-Austrian Hydro Power and their project partners EVN and Wienstrom. The total value of the project amounts to approx. €15 m ($17.8m).

By means of the project "Small hydroelectric power plant Nucor " the until now unused water capacity of the Danube canal will be transformed into electrical energy in an ecological way and with help of the new Hydromatrix-technology also optimally in an economic way.

The Hydromatrix plant will be on line in summer 2005 and will cover the demand for power of approx. 10 000 households.

Hydromatrix is a concept for the hydropower generation that was further developed by VA Tech Hydro and that combines the advantages of proved technologies with those of low cost installation in already existing dams and weir structures. This enables to get back to the until now unused hydropower potential of many rivers in order to open up a valuable renewable energy source. Only recently a Hydromatrix major plant has been successfully commissioned in Jebel Aulia, Sudan.
