9 April 2004 - Power was briefly cut across Los Angeles International Airport, including its control tower, causing flight delays, a spokesman said.
The cause of the ten s power outage, which darkened several buildings at the sprawling airport complex, was not immediately clear, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said.
"It's a line that serves approximately 26 industrial customer sites that included the LAX administration building and control tower and a number of other industrial sites," LADWP spokeswoman Carol Tucker said.
An FBI spokesman said there was no indication of foul play.
Power was cut to the air traffic control tower at the airport, LAX spokesman Harold Johnson said, which meant that controllers were briefly unable to communicate with aircraft.
A number of hotels and office buildings near the airport also went dark and some buildings were reporting intermittent outages two hours later, Tucker said.
Preliminary reports indicated that the trouble originated in an insulator at the American Airlines industrial station, where the airline houses its electrical equipment, Tucker said.
