Demag signs contracts for orders totaling over € 40m

12 April 2004 - Demag Delaval Industrial Turbomachinery, a fully owned Siemens subsidiary, has signed three contracts with a total order volume of € 40m. The company will supply gas and steam turbines for power generation, mechanical drive and industrial processes to Turlock Irrigation District (TID), California, USA, Afval Energie Bedrijf in Amsterdam and Cebi Enerji in Turkey.

TID is a company providing water and power services to homes, farms, businesses, industries and municipalities in the vicinity of Modesto, California. The scope of supply comprises a 100 MW ST6/ST5 steam turbine in reheat configuration. The steam turbine will be used in a new energy plant that is scheduled to begin commercial operation in October 2005.

The second order was awarded by Afval Energie Bedrijf, a waste and energy company in Amsterdam, for a 74 MW ST6 steam turbine that will be used in a waste-fired power plant. Upon scheduled completion in 2006, the plant will consume 500 000 t of waste annually. The total capacity, including the present waste-to-energy plant, will be 1.3m t of refuse per year, making this the world's largest plant of its kind. Plant electrical efficiency will be in excess of 30 per cent, an exceptionally high value in this industry.

The third order is for a 45 MW GTX100 gas turbine for Cebi Enerji, an independent power producer (IPP) in Turkey, which is affiliated with Kaptan Iron and Steel. The GTX100 will be used to power a combined cycle power plant that is being built by the customer and is scheduled for delivery to the Marmara Ereglisi site in October 2004. The scope of supply also includes a standard dry low emissions combustion system and evaporative cooling. Demag Delaval Industrial Turbomachinery is also supplying a 21 MW ST4 steam turbine to the project from its manufacturing facility in Brno, Czech Republic.
