13 April 2004 - A boom in orders is currently being experienced for diesel generating sets ranging in outputs from 500 to 2000 kVA worldwide, according to Indamex.
The Middle East, Africa and the Far East are all producing record orders well above the same period as last year.
The outputs suggest a rise in power demand from the major type of civil engineering projects, factory and industrial expansion coupled to power shortages, an increase in multi-storey office premises and the continuing development of mobile telephone networks.
Indamex, the Stamford UK based generating set manufactures, and part of the VibroPower Corporation of Singapore, are currently dealing with a greater than 200 per cent increase in orders for the Middle East and Africa compared to last year.
This includes a contract for over 170 generating sets ranging in sizes from 100 to 1000 kVA in a fully silenced configuration which have had to be air freighted to meet the customers demands for short deliveries. The smallest set weighs 2 tons and the largest 12 tonne.
Several 90 kVA sets have been supplied to a plant hire company for use at Bedouin style traditional weddings held in tents in the desert . Orders from Iran, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE include a number of generating sets for marine purposes. Ranging in sizes from 80 to 600 kVA these sets will be installed on oil rig servicing boats and tugs for the Alexandria Ship Yards and The Suez Channel Authority in Egypt.
James Bird, chairman of Indamex and former chairman of Petbow, said, 'We have quadrupled our market share in the Middle East and Africa over the last 2 years and increased the UK manufacturing operation which led to a move to larger premises last year. Our new sales team, including experienced new recruits from companies-such as Dale and Kohler combined with a network of 18 new distributors in the Middle East and Africa, is helping to produce these excellent results.'
Parent company VibroPower in Singapore have just won orders in excess of $15 million from China as a surge in demand for diesel generating sets has been experienced due to power shortages from the public supply. These orders won over a four-week period this year represent 80 per cent of their entire sales for the first half of 2003.
The power shortage in China has badly affected a large number of small and medium enterprises as many factories are only permitted to operate three days a week. Most of the generators are in the 500 to 2000 kVA sizes and all units will delivered by the end of March. The VibroPower Group has just announced its 2003 results reporting a 125 per cent increase in turnover to $30 million and a 700 per cent increase in profits to over $1 million.
Indamex and VibroPower manufacture gensets between 15 to 2500 kVA using well known brands of diesel engine from Cummins, Deutz, MTU, Perkins and Volvo
