1 April 2004 - Alstom has signed a contract with Hydro-Québec to refurbish four turbine generator sets at the Outardes-4 hydroelectric power plant in northern Quebec. The contract is worth around €30m ( $37m).
Under the terms of the contract, Alstom will supply, install, test and commission four turbine-generator sets and their auxiliaries.
Design and engineering work for these 188 MW hydro turbine-generators sets are already underway at the Alstom Hydro Sorel-Tracy plant, in the vicinity of Montreal. Manufacturing will start in spring 2005 and it is foreseen that the last set will be commissioned in December 2008.
The completion of the project will require 225 000 man-hours for the engineering, manufacturing and installation.
Pierre Gauthier, President of Alstom Canada, Power, stated: "Alstom and Hydro-Québec have worked together for many years to improve the hydropower plant efficiency in the province of Quebec. Alstom is proud to support Hydro-Québec in its quest to increase capacity through better efficiency."
