Idaho Power selects Plateau Systems to manage enterprise-wide learning and enhance employee performance

ARLINGTON, Va., April 2, 2004 -- Plateau Systems, a provider of enterprise software that manages learning and knowledge readiness, announced that Idaho Power, a subsidiary of IDACORP, Inc., an energy and technology holding company, has selected Plateau 4 Learning Management System (LMS) to manage all of its web-based and classroom learning for employees in 17 power plants and 80 franchise cities.

Plateau 4 LMS will replace the existing learning management system in use at Idaho Power, greatly improving the company's ability to strategically align learning with organizational readiness and human performance. Idaho Power selected Plateau as part of an overall strategy to streamline regulatory compliance and foster professional development in order to maintain a high level of customer service.

Idaho Power's employees are spread across a 20,000-square-mile area, spanning southern Idaho and eastern Oregon. Due to this geographic dispersion, learning has historically been decentralized and distributed across the organization. Plateau's software will enable the electric utility to streamline the assignment, tracking and deployment of classroom and online learning. This will result in lower training costs and greater consistency across the organization.

Plateau's software makes training information more accessible to managers and employees, greatly enhancing the company's ability to deliver mission-critical learning to those who need it in real time. Managers are able to access the LMS 24 hours a day, regardless of location, and assign learning based on specific criteria such as job roles or experience levels. In addition, managers are able to quickly and easily produce detailed, time-stamped audit reports on all training events, ensuring compliance with regulations enforced by agencies including the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

"Plateau's LMS will take Idaho Power to the next level by managing a complex curriculum and providing features for tracking and regulatory compliance that our former product didn't address," said Claire Rodkey, Idaho Power's training coordinator and LMS project leader. "Plateau's software was also a long-term decision because its flexibility and scalability is capable of meeting our strategic learning needs moving forward."

Employee learning at Idaho Power is delivered in a variety of methods, including online and traditional classroom-based training. Courses include progressive career studies, apprenticeship programs, safety courses mandated by regulatory agencies and human resources classes such as sexual harassment prevention.

"Idaho Power is taking a visionary approach to leveraging technology that enhances regulatory compliance and overall quality of service, " said Paul Sparta, Chairman and CEO of Plateau Systems. "Idaho Power's goal to provide consistent, auditable and consolidated training is a more strategic approach to organizational learning and knowledge readiness. This approach will empower employees to do their jobs better, faster and more efficiently."
