Russians secure Iraq power contracts

1 April 2004 - Russian-based company Power Machines Group has announced that it has signed a contract to deliver equipment to the Dibis Thermal Power Plant in Iraq. The renovation of the power plant is an important project for the reconstruction of Iraq's power infrastructure, supplying energy between the city of Kirkuk and Baghdad.

Power Machines will supply two 160 MW gas turbines and two turbo generators by the end of 2005. The turbines are amongst the largest produced in Russia, indicating that the final value of the contact should be substantial.

Another Iraqi-based contract that will involve Power Machines is the building the Yusifiya thermal power plant and the Al Adaim hydro power plant. Again, the value of the contracts has not yet been released. Power Machines has also declared that they have signed a contract with the Utilities Ministry of Macedonia for the modernization of three power generating units at the Bitola Thermal Power Plant, valued at about $20m.
