SE gets go-ahead for 7.5 MW expansion of Scottish hydro plant

30 March 2004 - The Scottish Executive has given Scottish and Southern Energy approval for a 7.5 MW expansion of the Fasnakyle hydro power station to generate electricity from the compensation water flowing into the Glass river in central Scotland.

SSE expects the power generated by the £5m ($9.90-mil) extension to be eligible for Renewables Obligation Certificates. It should begin generating power by the end of 2005 and generate around 62.4 GWh of electricity in a typical year.

SSE has submitted planning applications for an additional 200 MW of renewables generation which are now at an advanced stage in the planning process.
