24 March 2004 - A new technology that can capture carbon dioxide emissions from power stations and permanently store them underground is part of a new plan for cleaner coal to be released today.
The plan to reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions from the use of coal was devised by a partnership involving governments, and industry and research groups.
- The COAL21 National Action Plan, developed over the past year, will be launched during a global change symposium at Parliament House.
- COAL21 steering committee chairman Tim Besley said solving the problem of greenhouse gas emissions would require major changes in the way Australians produce and use energy.
