Abu Dhabi aims to boost capacity

24 March 2004 - Abu Dhabi will attempt plans to privatize the water and power sector by expanding or constructing more water and power plants through international participation.

"Following the restructuring of the water and electricity sector, it became necessary to add new IWPP capacity of approximately 1000-1500 MW every two to three years. This trend is likely to continue," said Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi, director of Privatization, Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA). Since 1993, peak desalination production has risen from around 100m to 380m g/d last year.
