Power Measurement acquires ABB's retail energy software business
15 March 2004 - Power Measurement, a global provider of enterprise energy management systems, today announced it has acquired ABB's Retail Energy business, formerly Energy Interactive Inc. in Oakland, California. Under this arrangement, ABB's staff, services and products will be integrated into Power Measurement's worldwide organization. ABB's Retail Energy products - including the Energy Profiler, Energy Profiler Online, Energy BOSS and E-VEE applications - will be offered alongside Power Measurement's own portfolio of ION enterprise energy management products and services under the Power Measurement name. According to Bradford Forth, Power Measurement president and CEO, the acquisition complements Power Measurement's offerings by providing a valuable interface between the electric utility and its customers. "Power Measurement designs and manufactures advanced energy-management systems for electricity suppliers and consumers," said Forth. "The Retail Energy software links the two by helping to improve communications between the utility and the customer¿this is a huge benefit for both parties. For example, the Energy Boss software replaces the monthly electricity bill with a simple interface that helps customers better understand their energy costs. Energy Profiler and Energy Profiler Online can be offered by utilities to help their major industrial and commercial customers reduce those costs by monitoring and analyzing their power usage. And the E-VEE product is a powerful meter data management and editing tool that helps utilities automatically collect and validate huge amounts of energy-load data. Together, these products and services fit very well with Power Measurement's own utility-focused energy management offerings," said Forth. "We expect our customers, energy providers and consumers to benefit greatly from the experience and talent that the Retail Energy team of energy professionals brings to Power Measurement," said Forth.
