Alstom to supply equipment for combined-cycle plant in Algeria

9 March 2004 - Alstom has been awarded two contracts by SNC Lavalin Constructors International for the Skikda Combined-Cycle Power Plant in the city of Skikda, Algeria. The power plant is owned and operated by Sharikete Kahraba Skikda Spa. The project will have an electrical output of approximately 880 MW and will supply much needed power to the local community. The combined value of the order is in excess of &euro55m($68m).

Alstom will supply 2 x 195 MW steam turbine generator sets and two Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs) behind the gas turbines. The HRSGs are using Alstom's OCCTM "Optimized for Cycling and Constructability" technology. Components for the HRSGs will predominantly be supplied from the US to meet the requirements of the customer.

In addition, Alstom will provide Technical Field Advisers during the erection and commissioning phases. Delivery to Algeria is scheduled for December 2004 and commercial operation is scheduled for 1 May 2006.

The supply of this Alstom equipment will greatly contribute to meeting the heavy demand for additional electrical power currently being experienced in Algeria.
