Work finished at latest Scottish Power windfarm

27 February 2004 - Scottish Power has announced the completion of the 35 turbine Cruach Mhor windfarm in Argyll, Scotland. The final turbine was erected today bringing on 30 MW of green energy, enough to power over 17 000 homes.

Speaking at the Scottish Renewables Forum, Deputy Enterprise Minister Lewis Macdonald welcomed the announcement: "Cruach Mhor is a fine example of the rural regeneration which can be brought about by renewable energy projects. I am delighted that the turbines were manufactured in Kintyre at the Vestas plant. This contract represents around £15m ($28m) for the local economy.

"The completion of Cruach Mhor is anther important milestone in our drive to develop 40 per cent of energy from renewable sources by 2020, and demonstrates that meeting our environmental obligations can be done in a way which provides major economic benefits to local economies."

The 8 month construction project has brought an estimated £15m to the Argyll economy including the 850 KW turbines being manufactured by Campbeltown's Vestas Celtic, which employs 200 people.

The project will now undergo a commissioning period before being officially opened in the early summer.
