Fort Collins, CO, Feb. 25, 2004 -- The Myrtle Beach office of Santee Cooper, one of the largest power providers in South Carolina, successfully migrated from JP/DE and MMPowerTools to ArcFM and Designer 8.3 in July 2003. Currently in production with eighteen seats of ArcFM and Designer, the implementation took eleven months to complete.
Publicly owned, Santee Cooper serves more than 1.7 million customers in South Carolina and supplies power to 32 large industries, the municipal utilities in Bamberg and Georgetown, and the Charleston Air Force Base. The Myrtle Beach area offices serve Horry, Georgetown, and Berkeley Counties with 140,000 distribution customers.
Functional areas at Santee Cooper that depend on GIS include Distribution and Transmission Design, Operations, Distribution Planning, and the Distribution Control Center. With approximately 6,000 annual distribution work requests generated for the Myrtle Beach area, the migration provided Santee Cooper a more efficient, modern, and stable environment with simplified administration of their geodatabase.
Miner & Miner initially conducted the ArcFM implementation to support the posting of non-graphic work requests by making any as-built changes or edits within ArcFM. Designer implementation occurred simultaneously and included integration to Logica's WMIS 2.7 product. The users have the ability to create work requests in WMIS for graphical designs in Designer.
They are then moved forward for approval, construction, and as-builting, with relevant data being passed between WMIS and Designer during the life-cycle of the design. The tight integration between WMIS and Designer allows streamlining of business processes. Other noteworthy customizations of the Designer software included interfaces between the Transformer History/Inventory system and Automated Plat Design (APD).
Gary Jeffcoat, Supervisor of Project Support at Santee Cooper, says, "Posting time for work requests and sessions have greatly improved with the new system. Our users are very pleased with the final Designer product."
