ABB wins $43m Mexican transmission system contract

25 February 2004 - Swiss engineering firm ABB has announced it has a $43m turnkey contract from Mexico's state power company CFE to install flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS) technology to help prevent power blackouts.

The order includes ABB's Static Var Compensator (SVC) technology, which helps to avoid grid overload. Over the past ten years, ABB has delivered 12 SVCs to the CFE, the statement said.
The project includes the design, manufacture, testing, installation and commissioning of the entire system in three regions and is scheduled for completion in 17 months.

The contract will improve the efficiency of the transmission system and increase grid reliability in Mexico City and northern parts of the country, the statement added.
