Cummins appoints new corporate officer


COLUMBUS, Ind., Feb. 13, 2004 -- Cummins Inc. announced that Michael Cross, Vice President - Fleetguard Emission Solutions, has been appointed a corporate officer.

Cross will continue to lead the development of advanced integrated exhaust aftertreatment products and Fleetguard's growing retrofit business. He reports to Rick Mills, President - Fleetguard.

"I am very pleased that Mike is responsible for this important and growing segment of our business," said Cummins Chairman and CEO Tim Solso. "Our Emission Solutions business is developing the full range of exhaust aftertreatment technologies to enable Cummins and other OEMs to choose the best emissions technology to apply in markets around the world.

"Mike has a track record of delivering results and will undoubtedly help us achieve our business objectives."

Cross, 42, is a 20-year Cummins veteran, having joined Cummins as inventory manager for the parts business in 1984. He has held leadership roles in accounting, financial planning and reporting, logistics, sales and marketing.

From 1998 to 2002, Cross was the General Manager of the Cummins parts business for North America and Europe. In 2002, he joined Fleetguard, based in Nashville, Tenn., to help start the Emission Solutions business, which achieved a profit in the first year of operations and recorded continuing sales and profit growth in 2003.

Cross earned his bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University and his MBA from Vanderbilt's Owen Graduate School of Management focusing on finance, accounting and management information systems. He and his wife Cynthia have two sons, Michael and William.

"I am confident in Mike's ability to ensure that Fleetguard and Cummins deliver the right technology for Cummins and other OEMs, enhancing our capabilities to significantly grow Fleetguard's catalytic exhaust business in retrofit and first-fit markets around the world," Solso said.
