Iberdrola opens fourth combined-cycle plant in Mexico

10 February 2004 - Spanish power group Iberdrola has opened a new combined-cycle power station in Altamira, Mexico, with a generation capacity of 1036 MW. As a result of the opening of the power station, Iberdrola now has a total generation capacity of 2193 MW in the country.

The plant is the group's fourth in Mexico, but two more are due to be opened this year, with a combined generation capacity of 1521 MW. Rival Spanish power group Union Fenosa, for its part, has a generation capacity of 1479 MW in Mexico. Endesa, Spain's largest power group, has ruled out entering the Mexican market until distribution is deregulated.
