Scottish Power grow customer base and profits

4 February 2004 - UK utility company Scottish Power plc today released third quarter results to 31 December 2003 which showed profits up £63m ($116m) to £651m, excluding goodwill amortisation. Earnings per share were of 25.8 pence, up 9 per cent and a dividend of4.75p was declared for the quarter.

Scottish Power Chief Executive, Ian Russell, said:" Following another good quarter, earnings per share for the year to date are up 9 per cent, driven by our strategy of delivering continued operational improvements and additional returns from our investment programme. Our UK customer numbers grew to 4 million for the first time with over 100 000 new customers added in the quarter. For the nine months, approaching half of our capital investment of over £650m was invested in organic growth opportunities, from which we expect to generate increasing returns in the future."
