Vietnam's oldest hydropower plant upgraded

30 January 2004 - Electricity of Vietnam is to undertake the upgrading of the country's oldest hydroelectric power plant. The Ankroet plant started operating in 1945 and is located in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong's electricity sector.

The project, with total investment of VND38.12bn ($2.42m) from a World Bank loan and funds from Electricity of Vietnam, will install two new turbines, each with a capacity of 1400 kW. These new turbines will replace the three old existing ones,
H1, H2 and H4, while the plant's current 1600 kW turbine will be retained for further operation.

After the upgrade, the power plant's capacity will remain at 4,400 kW but its annual electricity output is estimated to increase from the current 17 million kWh to 21.66 million kWh.
