Ten short-listed for Oman Sohar project

22 December 2-003 - Oman has short-listed ten international companies for the $200m Sohar private power project. The international bidders short-listed include UK's International Power, US firm AES, Belgium's Tractebel, Japanese firm Mitsui, France's Total, and Canada's SNC Lavalin Thermal Power.

The contract is expected to be awarded in the third quarter of 2004. The project would be the biggest to be owned and operated by a private company. The successful private company winning the 15-year contract will build the project, which is expected to generate up to 500 MW of electricity and a water desalination plant to pump 30 million gallons per day to the Sohar industrial area.
