Dec. 19, 2003 -- The Electric Power Supply Association (EPSA) announced that Mark Bennett has been promoted to the newly created position of director of policy.
"This promotion signifies an expansion of Mark's responsibilities in regional market development and his role representing EPSA in the ongoing effort to coordinate the standard-setting activity of the North American Electric Reliability Council and the North American Energy Standards Board," said EPSA President Lynne H. Church in an announcement Dec. 19.
EPSA is the national trade association representing competitive power suppliers, including generators and marketers. These suppliers, who account for nearly 40 percent of the installed generating capacity in the U.S., provide reliable and competitively priced electricity from environmentally responsible facilities serving global power markets. EPSA seeks to bring the benefits of competition to all power customers.
Previously, Bennett served as senior manager of policy at EPSA. Prior to joining EPSA, Bennett was as a staff attorney for three years at the Boston-based Conservation Law Foundation (CLF), where he helped to develop policies on demand-side management and transmission issues.
He also represented CLF on legislative and regulatory proceedings in Massachusetts and Vermont. His background also includes serving as an associate general counsel at the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) and as a staff attorney in the enforcement division of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
A native of Neptune, N.J., Bennett has a master's degree in environmental science from Vermont Law School, a master's of law degree in corporate and securities law from New York University Law School, a law degree from The John Marshall Law School, Chicago, and a bachelor's degree with honors in political science from Washington & Lee University.
