New Wood Group facility opens in Sheffield, England

Nov. 18, 2003 -- The Home Secretary David Blunkett MP visited Sheffield-based Wood Group Rotary Electrical Company Ltd on Friday 14th November 2003 to officially open the company's new 35,000 sq ft electrical generator service facility.

Part of the Gas Turbine Services division of international energy services company, John Wood Group PLC ("Wood Group"), Wood Group Rotary Electrical provides generator service, repair and rewind, and coil manufacture services to electrical generator operators in the Eastern Hemisphere power generation, oil & gas and industrial markets.

Key features of the new facility include a 60 tonne crane, which doubles the company's generator rotor lifting capacity, a 10 tonne generator balancing machine and an 8m³ oven.

David Baillie, Chief Executive of Wood Group Gas Turbine Services, said: "Investing in this new, larger premises is a significant development for Wood Group Rotary Electrical. The new facility gives the company expanded workshop space and capacity, enabling it to undertake contracts for all makes, models and sizes of electrical generators, and therefore increase the scope of service it offers to electrical generator users throughout the Eastern Hemisphere."

During the opening ceremony, Mr Blunkett also presented long-service awards to three members of Wood Group Rotary Electrical staff, who have completed 25 years of service with the company.

David continued: "Wood Group's generator service capability, together with our gas turbine, steam turbine, rotating equipment and controls expertise, makes us a world leading independent aftermarket provider of maintenance, repair and overhaul services to the power and oil & gas industries."
