NREL's Art Nozik elected AAAS fellow

Golden, Colo., Oct. 31, 2003 - NREL researcher Arthur Nozik has been named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the highest distinction bestowed on AAAS members by their peers.

Nozik is a Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Energy's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). During the past 30 years, Nozik has earned a leading position in the interdisciplinary fields of photoelectrochemistry, semiconductor-molecule interfaces, and quantum size effects and carrier dynamics in semiconductor quantum dots and quantum wells. He has published more than 160 peer-reviewed publications and edited several books in these fields. Nozik also has been awarded 11 U.S. patents.

Three hundred forty eight members were elevated to the rank of Fellow this year in recognition of their efforts to advance science or applications that are deemed scientifically or socially distinguished. The tradition of AAAS Fellows began in 1874.

Currently, members can be considered for the rank of Fellow if nominated by the steering groups from the Association's 24 sections, by any three Fellows who are current AAAS members, or by the chief executive officer. Final selection is made by the AAAS council, the policymaking body of the Association.

NREL is the U.S. Department of Energy's premier laboratory for renewable energy research and development and a leading laboratory for energy efficiency R&D. NREL is operated for DOE by Midwest Research Institute, Battelle and Bechtel.
