Alstom wins two hydro orders in China

21 October 2003 - Alstom has recently been awarded two contracts valued at approximately €18m ($21m) for the supply of equipment to the Gui Du Fu and Longtan Hydro Power Stations in China.

For the first of these contracts, Alstom will supply 3 x 22 MW Bulb turbine/generator units for the Gui Du Fu Hydro Power Station, located in China's Sichuan Province. The station is owned by Sichuan Yaan Gui Du Fu Power Development Co., Ltd. The equipment is scheduled to be delivered phase-by-phase starting in 2004 and continuing through to 2006.

For the second of these contracts, with a consortium led by Harbin Electrical Machinery Company (HEC), Alstom will provide equipment and components for the 7 x 700 MW Longtan Hydro Project in the Guangxi Province. The scope of supply includes three stator frames, five stator segments, upper brackets and five upper & lower covers. The first unit is scheduled for commercial operation in 2007. This is in addition to a previous order by HEC for the supply of seven generators (778 MVA, 107.1 rpm) for Longtan.

Tianjin Alstom Hydro Co. Ltd, a unit formed in 1995, in which Alstom has a 77 per cent shareholding, will supply the equipment for both orders. It employs approximately 780 employees, including over 100 engineers. Strongly supported by Tianjin Municipal Government and backed by Alstom's advanced technologies, this unit has the capacity to design and manufacture a full range of hydropower equipment.

Anders Maltesen, Managing Director of Tianjin Alstom Hydro Co. Ltd comments, "Alstom's long term strategy of localisation and technology transfer has contributed to the winning of these projects and will continue to be a key factor of its success in China. The partnership with Harbin Electrical Machinery Company proves also mutually beneficial. "
