20 October 2003 - Siemens Power Transmission and Distribution (PTD) has signed a three-year contract to provide metering services in Southern Poland to Gornoslaski Zaklad Elektroenergetyczny SA (GZE), a subsidiary of the international Swedish utility Vattenfall.
Siemens Energy Services Poland, the new metering services department within the Siemens regional company, is providing electricity data collection and basic meter maintenance to nearly one million meter points in the region of Silesia in Poland since September 2003. Siemens PTD Poland will manage the activity in co-operation with the headquarter of metering services in the United Kingdom. In the UK Siemens PTD is the leading independent metering services provider.
GZE as part of Vattenfall wants to concentrate on their core distribution business and has selected Siemens as the outsourcing partner who would be able to provide long-term efficient meter reading services. The service is provided since September 2003 by the staff who previously worked for GZE and a practice exchange with the United Kingdom is already underway.
