SPOKANE, Wash., Oct. 14, 2003 -- Itron Inc. announced Tuesday that BC Hydro has purchased Itron's workforce management software, Service-Link™, for use by its call centers and field service technicians.
Using wireless communications and the Internet, Service-Link extends real-time data communications to employees in the field, enabling utilities to automate the scheduling and dispatching of work to field technicians, and to more effectively track and monitor the status of their field service operations.
Users enjoy the benefits of near real-time dispatching, while eliminating the costly paperwork and time associated with traditional manual work order processing.
BC Hydro, headquartered in Vancouver, is one of the largest electric utilities in Canada, serving more than 1.6 million customers. BC Hydro's call centers handle approximately 70,000 work orders a year. Sixty field technicians are already using Service-Link, with additional users added weekly.
"BC Hydro was looking for a solution that would enable them to work smarter by processing their field work orders quickly and reliably," said Russ Vanos, Vice President and General Manager of Itron's Electric Systems Business Unit. "Service-Link will help BC Hydro respond to customer requests in a more timely manner, give them real-time updates on the status of work being performed in the field, and help them better balance their field technicians' workloads."
Service-Link's web-based architecture and off-the-shelf simplicity makes it easy for BC Hydro to integrate its new software with existing systems and enables implementation with minimal cost, minimal difficulty, and minimal IT resources, Vanos added.
