Alstom seals power plant contract in Abu Dhabi

10-10-03 - Alstom has been awarded a contract to supply maintenance and reconditioning services for the 640 MW Ruwais Refinery gas-fired power and desalination plant in Abu Dhabi.

The order was placed by Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer) - the oil-refining branch of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, one of the world's largest oil producers.

The scope of the contract, worth around EUR40m, includes the supply of spare parts, major overhauls of each of the plant's four GT13E2 gas turbines, and the reconditioning of replaced GT parts. Overhaul work is scheduled for completion in early 2004.

"Alstom Power Service Arabia" (APSA), which has just reinforced its capability to do business locally by completing the construction of a new service workshop and business offices within the Jebel Ali Free Zone in Dubai. The Ruwais project is the first where APSA is providing and co-ordinating all activities and manpower themselves in co-operation with the GT service centre in Baden, Switzerland.

APSA's new facility now serves as Alstom's local HQ for all sales of power plant spare parts and related services to the Gulf region and is the base for the Middle East hub of service activities. The attached workshop is primarily set up to recondition gas turbine blades and vanes and to rewind generator rotors. It will also support other Alstom company service entities in the Middle East.

The order reflects Takreer's confidence in Alstom and follows the 1998 turnkey order for the Ruwais plant, which is located 230 km west of the capital, Abu Dhabi City.
