Alstom wins air pollution control order in India

10-10-03 - Alstom has received an order from Bharat Aluminium Co. Ltd. (BALCO) in India to supply emission control systems for their aluminium smelter plant. The new system will help BALCO meet the strict emission limits in force. The order is valued at about EUR22 million.

Alstom will deliver the full turnkey installation of a dry-scrubber system for the smelter pots and anode-baking furnace. The scope of supply includes design, engineering, supply, transportation, erection and commissioning, including civil works.

BALCO is one of the oldest aluminium producers in India with a smelter capacity of 100 000 MTA that will be increased to 350 000 MTA with the present expansion plan.

Alstom is a world leader in treating gases from pots & anode baking furnaces and, in the field of emissions control, has held 100 per cent market share in India for last few decades.

Sasanka Bhattacharya, Alstom Business Unit Director India noted: "100 per cent of the modern emission control systems delivered to the Indian aluminium industry for many years have been delivered by Alstom. BALCO placed this order with Alstom as a result of our well proven performance in the field of emission control and our good team work."
