Asiagen proposes Philippine power project

1 October 2003 - Asiagen Power, a Hong Kong-based power firm is planning to supply electricity to a number of the Philippine barangays situated in the west coast of the city of Puerto Princesa.

This development came after Asiagen Power submitted a project proposal to Mayor Edward Hagedorn for the electrification of barangays Sabang, Marufinas and New Panggangan. The firm is proposing to build a 3.4 MW power plant with distribution lines

Based on their proposal, James Thomas, Asiagen president said the company would charge P4.00 ($0.073) for every kilowatt hour. He added the rate would probably decline as the number of consumers and demand rises.

Thomas, who personally submitted the proposal, said the move is their expression of support to Hagedorn's thrust to bring development in the far-flung barangays.

"If this implemented, it would be of great help to the residents there and will surely bring development and other business opportunities", he said.
