HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM, Sept. 24, 2003 - Invensys' Asia Pacific organization recently successfully completed a comprehensive control system modernization project at the second of four 677.5 MW units at the Castle Peak "B" Power Station in Hong Kong.
The Unit 4 modernization project, completed under a very tight schedule, involved the replacement of the legacy panel-board control system with a state-of-the-art I/A Series automation system.
The new system was brought on line rapidly and with no issues during a planned shutdown. In 2002, Invensys performed a similar control system modernization project for Unit 3 at this world-scale power station, which is owned by the Castle Peak Power Company Limited (CAPCO).
Invensys and CAPCO have now begun work on the modernization of the last two units at Castle Peak B. Ultimately, Invensys' modernization contract calls for the installation of Foxboro-brand I/A Series automation systems in all four units to overcome the maintenance and spare parts problems associated with the prior systems. As proven at Unit 3, the new control systems also provide a higher level of automation to reduce unit start up times and improve thermal efficiency.
The modernization project involves close cooperation between Invensys and CAPCO personnel. The Castle Peak Power Station is owned by Castle Peak Power Company Limited (CAPCO), a partnership formed between CLP Power and ExxonMobil Energy Limited.
CLP Power supplies electricity to more than two million customers in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, representing about 5.5 million people in Kowloon, the New Territories and most of the outlying islands, including Lantau, where the Hong Kong International Airport is located.
CLP Power's parent company, CLP Holdings, invests in energy-related businesses in the Chinese mainland and the Asia-Pacific region and is pursuing selected non-electricity opportunities in Hong Kong and the Mainland.
