FirstEnergy names new FENOC senior vice president

Sept. 24, 2003 -- FirstEnergy Corp. announced that Joseph J. Hagan has joined its FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) subsidiary as senior vice president of engineering and support services. He reports to FENOC President Gary Leidich.

Hagan's responsibilities include the nuclear engineering functions at FENOC's three plants - Perry, Beaver Valley and Davis-Besse - as well as oversight of FENOC's fleet asset management, nuclear fuels and nuclear services departments.

"Joe's 30 years of experience in the nuclear industry will further strengthen FENOC's executive team," said Leidich. "His demonstrated leadership in nuclear operations with multiple plants will enhance the fleet approach of managing our nuclear power plants."

Hagan is a former senior vice president of Nuclear Operations for Exelon Generation in Illinois, with responsibility for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Operating Group, which included Peach Bottom, Limerick, Oyster Creek and TMI 1 nuclear power plants. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of Nuclear Operations at PECO Nuclear in Pennsylvania, site vice president at Entergy's Grand Gulf plant in Mississippi, general manager at Hope Creek in New Jersey and vice president of Nuclear Operations for Public Service Enterprise in New Jersey.

Hagan holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in engineering management, both from Drexel University in Pennsylvania. He also received a senior reactor operator's license from the Hope Creek plant and a stationary engineer's license from the state of New Jersey.
