24 September 2003 - VA Tech Transmission & Distribution (VA Tech T&D) has won their first outdoor GIS switchgear contracts in Puerto Rico.
The first contract, valued at nearly €1.65m ($1.88m) for Prepa Utility, is for the Viaducto Isla Grande project in Puerto Rico and was signed in July by the VA Tech subsidiary VA Tech Elin USA. The second contract, valued at nearly €3.3m for Prepa Utility, is for the Bayamon project in Puerto Rico and was signed in August by the above mentioned VA Tech subsidiary.
Both contracts comprise engineering, supply and commissioning of GIS bays together with GIS busducts. In both cases the equipment will be used to extend outdoor substations, part of a ring configuration. The outdoor GIS is linked to the existing substation through SF6/Air bushings and is connected to the network through underground cables.
HB7-115 kV-50kA GIS is offered for Viaducto Isla grande project whereas H9S-115 kV-63kA GIS is offered for Bayamon project. This GIS version is particularly designed to fulfil most of the US requirements in today's deregulated and growing market.
VA Tech T&D supplies indoor and outdoor switchgear to customers worldwide for use in controlling and reinforcing their transmission networks across the voltage range. Those orders follow the recent supply of a 500kV GIS to a major US utility highlighting VA Tech focus on the T&D market in the Americas.
Manufacture of both equipments will be at the VA Tech T&D plant in
