Schwarzenegger's energy policy recognises Proton's fuel cell technology

23 September 2003 - California Gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger unveiled his proposed energy policy yesterday, which calls for using technology developed and manufactured by Proton Energy Systems, Inc. a manufacturer of hydrogen generators and regenerative fuel cell systems.

Schwarzenegger announced his environmental platform at an event in Santa Barbara, California, during which he highlighted Proton's hydrogen generator, the HOGEN, which produces high purity hydrogen from water and electricity on demand at customer locations. Proton showcased the equipment at the event as well.

"Our core technology transforms electricity into fuel," said Walter W. "Chip" Schroeder, Proton's CEO. He added, "What the Schwarzenegger team recognises is that Proton's products enable the use of hydrogen as a non- depleting and non-polluting fuel for cars and in distributed energy applications to supplement our over-stressed electric power systems. When the electricity to run our hydrogen generators comes from solar, wind, or hydro power, a truly sustainable energy future can be achieved."
