22 September 2003 - Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) said this morning that power has been restored to more than 412 000 customers as some 4100 field workers continue the massive restoration effort to fully restore electric service to Central Maryland.
At the height of the storm about 650 000 customers were knocked out of service by Hurricane Isabel, which raced through the region last week and left a path of widespread service interruptions in its wake. BGE will continue to work around the clock until all customers' service is restored.
The heavy rain that accompanied Isabel has triggered an unusual safety concern for property owners whose homes and businesses were deluged by water.
BGE urges customers who have experienced flooding or water damage as a result of Hurricane Isabel to have their homes inspected by licensed electricians and licensed plumbers if they utilize gas appliances.
"Safety remains our primary concern as we continue to restore service throughout the BGE service territory," said Ken DeFontes, vice president, Electric Transmission and Distribution. "This becomes particularly important for customers whose homes have suffered flooding including submerged outlets, breaker boxes and gas appliances."
