Washington, DC, Sept. 19, 2003 -- Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham and Under Secretary of State Paula Dobriansky are featured keynote speakers at this year's Clean Coal and Power Conference, November 17-19, at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC.
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy, the meeting focuses on "Coal's Role in the Coming Decades - Energy Security in an Insecure World." For the first time, this year's annual clean coal meeting will be held in conjunction with the Second Joint U.S.-People's Republic of China (PRC) Conference on Clean Energy.
The Clean Energy Conference, November 18-19, is an activity of the joint U.S. DOE and PRC Protocol Agreement entered into by DOE's Office of Fossil Energy and the Ministry of Science and Technology, People's Republic of China.
Conference sessions will focus on political, environmental, economic and social issues associated with satisfying the growing global demand for energy and explore the significance of coal as a viable source of energy that should be used to meet that demand as well as to identify its role in the potential solutions to those issues.
Domestic and international assessments will be made of the dynamic changes that are occurring in coal's role in the energy market resulting from the increasing competition in fuel markets, the restructuring of the utility industry, changing and tightening of environmental regulations and the potential impact of emerging global climate change initiatives.
Registration for the three-day conference is $500.00 in advance and $550.00 on site. All conference events are scheduled at the Ronald Reagan Building, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C.
