Second Morocco-Spain interconnector planned

1 August 2003 - A second undersea cable to transport electricity between Morocco and Spain is planned to come into service in 2005 and double transit capacity to 1400 MW it was reported today.

The €117.2m ($131.6m) project, signed on Thursday by the Morocco's National Electricity Office and the Red Electrica de Espana, will help the two countries integrate their power markets.

Project costs are to be shared equally.
