Sumitomo consortium set to build largest Malaysian power plant

29 July 2003 - A consortium led by Sumitomo Corporation of Japan is expected to win an order to build a $1.5bn power plant in Malaysia, according to local press reports.

The coal fired power plant will have an installed capacity of 2100 MW and will be built for Malaysia's SKS Power Sdn. Bhd. Power produced at the plant in the Malaysian State of Johore will be sold wholesale to TNB, Malaysia's national electric utility.

The power plant will have three 700 MW generators, with the first to be completed in 2006.
