Siemens appoints Niehage to head Power Technology division

28 July 2003 - Dr. Udo Niehage (48) has been appointed Group President of Siemens' Power Transmission and Distribution Group, headquartered in Erlangen, Germany, effective October 1, 2003.

Dr. Udo Niehage joined Siemens in 1988 as project head for power systems controls at Siemens' Power Transmission and Distribution Group (PTD). In 1992, he moved to ABB in Mannheim, Germany to become head of engineering in the Technology and Export Division. While head of the company's Power Systems Control Division, Niehage left ABB in 1999 to head the Sales and Energy Trading Center of energy supplier Bewag in Berlin. In 2000, he returned to PTD in Erlangen to take over the Group's Medium Voltage Power Switchgear Subdivision. A year later, he was appointed to head PTD's Medium Voltage Division. Niehage will become Group President of PTD on October 1, 2003

At the same time, his predecessor, Dr. Heinrich Hiesinger, will become Group President of the Siemens Building Technologies Group (SBT), headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. Hiesinger joined Siemens in 1992 as project head in the sales department for high voltage substations at the Power Transmission and Distribution Group in Erlangen. In 1995, he was named to head the Air-insulated High Voltage Substations Subdivision. In 1997, he began a two-year stint as member of the Executive Management of PT Siemens Indonesia. Before his appointment as Group President of PTD in 2000, Hiesinger headed the Group's Metering Division, headquartered in Zug, Switzerland.
